Ignominious Distinction for Victoria

We learned over the weekend that Victoria is the only city in all of North America ever to lock out its librarians – and its users. So now we can add embarrassment to the list of words, like frustrated and angry, that describe how we feel about the lockout.

And today marks the start of the second month that we and the rest of Greater Victoria’s library users have been locked out of Our Library. Aggravated is another word that comes to mind.

The ‘It’s Our Library’ Team has contacted the Library’s CEO and has asked to make a presentation to the Board next Tuesday – right after our Rally at the Central Library. Please plan to join us at the Rally – March 25th, 11am to noon. And bring your friends and family to rally for binding arbitration and open libraries.

This is a distinction worth fighting against.
If we undervalue our libraries and librarians, we do so at great risk to our standard of education.
Libraries are essential. If we wish think of ourselves as a civilized society, we must support our public resources of knowledge and culture. Library users rise up, protest!

Hello, I came across this site when reading the Times Colonist today. I want to say that I fully support the library workers and their reason for job action, and I plan on attending the rally next week. Here's hoping that the wheels get moving !
