It's Our Library

Do you share our frustration over the Greater Victoria Public Library lockout? Could you please contribute your voice to help end the lockout?

We are in despair over the library board's failure to resolve their differences with the union. And we are angry that the library board has claimed ownership of the library. To state what should be obvious:

It's Our Library.

We, the residents and taxpayers of Greater Victoria, own the Library and the time has come to insist that we again have access to Our collection and services. We refuse to be locked out of Our Library for weeks or months to come.

We feel that:

Immediate Binding Arbitration is the only Speedy and Fair Solution to this dispute.

If you agree, we ask you to do three things:

1. Please cast your vote for Immediate Binding Arbitration and add your comments to anything you see posted as well.

2. Plan to attend the ** IT'S OUR LIBRARY RALLY **

11am to noon Tuesday, March 25

Central Library at 735 Broughton Street

That's the next time the Library Board is meeting and it's our chance to show them that we need our Library back.

3. Encourage your friends and family to participate. We need everyone -- toddlers, school children, parents, seniors -- because Our Library with all its varied services is vitally important to all of us.

If all of us cast a vote and join the rally, we can end this dispute -- and then we can all enjoy the rights and privileges of Our Library once again.

Thanks for your help.

It's Our Library!
We fully agree and are grateful you have taken the time to organize this blog and help spread the word. We support the library workers who have been locked out. Our library is a vital part of our community -let's get it back and open!

It concerns me that the Library Board says they are losing revenue. Surely the Board is not relying on our fines to pay the staff. This is supposed to be an incentive to get books back.

We pay the staff and expenses with our taxes.

Sometimes people with position and power have too much influence.

It is time that Binding Arbitration is used to get our Libraries functioning again. We all need them.
